Nurse Midwives
NURSE MIDWIVES
Yeshi Neumann
CNM, MA, MPH
Inspired by the homebirth of her first daughter in 1970, Yeshi
began attending births in a rural community three hours from the
nearest hospital. She became a Certified Nurse Midwife in 1980.
Yeshi has practiced midwifery in a many settings, from high-obstetrics
in an urban hospital to working with traditional midwives in Nicaragua,
Guatemala, Mexico and Tibet. Yeshi has extensive experience in
hypnotherapy, counseling, conflict resolution, diversity training,
meditation and bodywork. She created Homestyle Midwifery in 2000.
One of the highlights of her life was “catching” her
granddaughters, Luna June and Ciela Josephine.
Michelle Baird
CNM, MSN
Michelle graduated from Columbia University's nurse-midwifery
program in 1997. Since then, she has worked in hospitals, freestanding
birth
centers, and homes. She has worked in rural and urban areas
in the United States, from New York City to Utah to the Bay
Area. Michelle
believes that midwifery includes the opportunity to advocate
for women and families, and for empowerment and choice in all
aspects
of health care. Michelle spends free time with her daughter
Alex, who is growing fast, and her partner.
Rebecca Hess
MSN
Becca is thrilled to join Homestyle Midwifery. She is a recent
graduate of the UCSF Nurse Midwifery program. Becca has attended
births in San Francisco, New York City and Kumba, Cameroon, where
she also did HIV research and education with a locally based non-profit. Becca
began her birth journey as a doula, and founded the San Francisco
doula group in 2004. Becca believes in the strength of the
birthing woman and is honored to be a part of the birth process. When
she is not on call or in the clinic she loves to cook, eat and
play in the ocean.
