Posted August 1st, 2007 by matthewWe have a Blue Cross PPO and could have chosen any doctor/midwife and hospital,
but we wanted the best. The knowledge, caring and attention at St. Luke's
is top notch.

Posted August 1st, 2007 by matthewI also wanted to commend the nursing staff that I worked with at St
Lukes. They added excellent support to my birth team.

Posted August 1st, 2007 by matthewWe were unable to afford a home birth or a birthing center so Homestyle
Midwifery was a great way for us to get the kind of care we were looking
for and that our insurance would cover. From the very first tour all
the way through my postpartum care I felt like I was part of a family.
I knew a lot about the birthing "industry" going in to the
process and was apprehensive about being in a hospital at all, but Yeshi
and Cynthia were great at letting me express my wishes and fears and
reassured me through their actions as well as their information that
I could trust them to keep my labor and delivery process as natural as
was safely possible. My labor and delivery were wonderful. I felt respect
for myself, my son and my husband too, from the beginning to the end
of my Homestyle experience.

Posted August 1st, 2007 by matthewEvery hospital in every city and town should have a program like Homestyle Midwifery, helping women have the holistic, safe and positive birth experience they deserve. I am exceedingly greatful for all the wonderful care and encouragement -- care not only for the body but also for the spirit. Thank you, Homestyle!

Posted August 1st, 2007 by matthewI switched to Homestyle in my third trimester because I was starting to feel uncertain about having my second child in a traditional hospital setting—the first time around I had a few interventions I probably didn’t need despite my airtight birth plan. This time, I was supported in simply turning the process over to my body and my baby. It was the most thrilling and empowering experience of my life, especially because I didn’t start out entirely convinced I had it in me. Most women around the world grow up knowing they’re going to have their babies this way and have probably even seen their sisters or cousins do it—and at the other end of the spectrum I know a few women who have gone for elective C-sections and wouldn’t consider even a vaginal birth. I’m one of those who grew up assuming I’d need some kind of medical help to give birth—and proved to myself at age 37 that actually, with patience and support my body works just perfectly on its own. Yeshi was great. She responded to my classic “transition meltdown” with calm confidence, and helped me focus and pace myself during the birthing phase. Sachi entered the world alert and energetic, and of course it was love at first sight. I’m so glad I trusted my instincts on this one.

Posted August 1st, 2007 by matthewWhen I found out I was pregnant, I dreamt of giving birth in the garden, hanging from a branch. That was my fantasy. When culture, geography and timing made this impossible, Homestyle Midwifery offered a new vision, one where I could have my idea of connection and natural birth coupled with the luxury of modern medicine. Homestyle practice far exceeded my expectations. After laboring for 14 hours at home, I was relieved to find myself in Yeshi's confident and competent hands. Her presence and her trust brought me through the darkness of the final phase and Oliver was born within an hour. Minutes later, exalted by the experience of meeting and holding my child, I found myself saying, "I would do this again!"

Posted August 1st, 2007 by matthewI had an amazing birth with Homestyle Midwifery. I had a 39 hour labor from the time my water broke at 11am on September 10th until I delivered Daria at 2:02am on September 12th. I had no pain medication, only Pitocin for the last 7 hours to intensify my contractions for pushing. I dilated to 10 centimeters and was 100% effaced about halfway through the labor, but Daria was still very high and descended slowly, but consistently, through the birth canal. I was completely supported the entire time by my partner Phil, my doula Ann Hayman, Yeshi, Cynthia and Becca from Homestyle. I could never have done it without their suggestions, pep talks and love. I feel confident that in a traditional hospital setting I would not have been able to have the birth I wanted, despite the fact that my baby and I were doing well throughout the entire labor and delivery. Daria was born with the cord around her neck and body, which is possibly why she descended very slowly and I had not wanted her birthday to be on September 11th, which of course it isn't. Daria was born pink, happy and healthy. Neither she nor I suffered from a long labor.

Posted August 1st, 2007 by matthewAfter becoming pregnant with our daughter, we searched for an alternative to the medical model. We were overjoyed to find Homestyle Midwifery... At their recommendation, we also used the services of a terrific Doula, Rachel Yellin. Our entire experience with them was terrific. I felt so supported throughout my pregnancy and had a truly awesome, empowering birth experience with our beautiful, peaceful daughter Rachel. I was able to give birth without any medical intervention and felt so strong and powerful and honored to participate in a miracle. I cannot sing the praises of Homestyle Midwifery enough and would recommend them highly.

Posted August 1st, 2007 by matthewEvery pregnant woman deserves the care, support and love what Homestyle Midwifery offers. Yeshi, Cynthia, Hokhmah and Michelle provide exceptional prenatal, birth and postpartum care. I transferred to Homestyle Midwifery because I wanted to give birth as intervention free as it is possible, but in a hospital setting. My expectations and what Homestyle Midwifery offers seemed to meet. Giving birth to our baby was an amazing experience for us; I had the birth I dreamed of. I labored at home with the help of my wonderful husband and my doula, Lis Worcester. By the time we got into the hospital, it was time to push the baby out! (I skipped the water birth tub, oh well...). Our baby boy arrived with the help of Cynthia, without the need of any medication. I am hoping that our next baby (babies) will arrive with the help of Homestyle Midwifery also! Thank you all!

Posted August 1st, 2007 by matthewWhen Brad and I found out we were pregnant we were absolutely thrilled. We both wanted to have a natural birth at home with a midwife and a doula. At the time it wasn't possible to birth at home so were were elated to find Homestyle. They were so very kind in every possible way; whether it was with finding a doula, taking the time to answer every question we could think of (no matter how silly!), or supporting me through the emotional waves of pregnancy.
Our little sweetpea was determined to come out feet first and Homestyle was there to offer us guidence and support in determining our best options for delivery. Our son was born via a cesaerian birth and although I wasn't able to deliver naturally as planned our son's birth was wonderful and very personal, we were able to experience it the way we hoped.
Brad and Cynthia were right next to me while Olivia was there taking pictures with my camera phone; a great idea by Dr. Norell! Olivia was able to get a picture of Maurice coming out of my belly and the most special moment of all was when Dr. Norell pulled down the curtain for me to finally meet my precious baby and I was able to kiss him, what more could any mother ask for?!? On daddy's end, Brad cut the umbilical cord, was able to have the first skin to skin contact with Maurice and stay with our son every moment until I was able to join them. Cynthia stayed with me in the meantime and kept me updated with what was happening; I never felt alone. In the days after the birth Yeshi, Hokhmah, Cynthia and Olivia came to visit with us and make sure we were all doing well, it was very encouraging and supportive. We feel truly blessed to have been able to bring our son into the world with Homestyle. Wishing you all the very best!
