Posted June 26th, 2007 by adminHomestyle Midwifery has created a truly unique home-in-philosophy but hospital-based-in-location approach to pre/post natal care and childbirth. We were thrilled to find such a balanced and perfect fit for our needs as an expectant couple.
From the beginning of our care, Cynthia and Yeshi provided holistic, nurturing, knowledgeable, responsive and loving care that set the stage for our daughter Amaya Skye’s magical and peaceful birth. They always spent as long with us in person or on the phone as we needed, and provided a vast array and combination of western and “alternative” approaches to health and well-being from the earliest days through Amaya’s second month in the world. They transformed a regular old hospital room into the most intimate, peaceful and warm environment to labor in and welcome our baby. When we met with medical complications after Amaya’s birth, Cynthia was skilled and calm and allowed the magic of the experience to continue throughout the necessary procedures. For that, we are endlessly grateful.
Having trust in your provider is one of the most critical components of preparing to give birth, and we never could have imagined just how deep that trust would become and how much it would inform our birth experience. The combination of home, group, and office-based visits was integral to this development. And it doesn’t just stop with the birth – having such immediate and personalized care in those first weeks after Amaya’s birth was invaluable. They responded to our endless questions as new parents with specific and reassuring recommendations.
Cynthia and Yeshi inspire the utmost confidence with their wisdom, expertise, and philosophical approach to the profound life transitions of pregnancy and birth. They are as passionate about their work as they are skilled at it; as knowledgeable as they are driven by their holistic philosophy; and as committed to a broader vision of community building – and its relevance for childbirth and raising healthy communities – as they are to their attentive individual care and relationship-building. We can’t thank Homestyle enough for everything they did for us. This experience will be with us always, and has started Amaya’s life off on such a profoundly perfect note.

Posted June 26th, 2007 by adminWe delivered our son Jonah at St. Luke’s on March 12, 2006 with Hokhmah and assistant Olivia guiding the way. The loving and expert care given to us during my pregnancy by Yeshi, Cynthia and Hokhmah went beyond our expectations. We wanted to give birth naturally and use medical interventions only when necessary, and chose a Homestyle birth at St. Luke’s for this reason. But this midwifery practice was so much more than we could have ever requested in any birth “plan”. They provided the most attentive care I have ever received from a health care practitioner, and we especially enjoyed the community they created where we could meet other March due-date parents and share thoughts, fears, and excitement about the upcoming birth. At Jonah’s birth, Hokhmah was not only a professional, but a steady guide, whose wisdom and warmth supported me through the most intense journey of my life. We feel so blessed to have had Homestyle help us bring Jonah into our lives. They will always be a part of our family.

Posted June 26th, 2007 by adminOur experience with Homestyle Midwifery was extraordinary. These women are truly masters of their craft. They approach their work with a unique blend of holistic medicine, community building, & a seemingly endless well of compassion & knowledge. I know that we would have had a very different & quite possibly a more medicalized & difficult birth had we not worked with them. We are grateful for their care & can only hope that they are on the forefront of a new trend in pre-natal care & labor & delivery. If this is the case, a healthier & happier generation is in the making.

Posted June 26th, 2007 by admin… My heart really sings when I think about this birth! I can still hardly believe that baby Lucas is here in our arms, and I am in such awe at the amazing experience I had giving birth to him. I must admit that before we had our first son, I never really thought that much about the experience of birth or what it might mean to me. But when things went awry in labor, ending in an emergency cesarean section, it left a hole inside of me that I never expected. Since then, and particularly in the months leading up to Lucas’ birth, I was sometimes filled with anxiety and doubt about what my body could do and what would happen in this birth. Thank you for supporting me through those fears and for sharing my goal of a vaginal birth. So many women I meet do not know that a VBAC is safe or sometimes even that it is an option. And they do not know how this experience can transform them… I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for creating a physical environment which allowed me to have a natural labor and birth. It was incredible to experience the amazing strength dwelling inside my body. Even more importantly, I am grateful for your emotional support which helped me believe that this birth was possible.

Posted June 26th, 2007 by adminHomestyle... What a wonderful operation. It empowers women by offering the best of both worlds. I felt completely in charge of my birth and that I had the best advice to help me make any decision. I felt that my wishes about birth were respected. I felt cared for. Homestyle really took the time to know me; my appointments were not rushed and caring for my child and me were the focus, not the clock. Thank you Homestyle!

Posted June 26th, 2007 by adminWe switched to Homestyle in the third trimester of my pregnancy because we were looking for a more personal care provider and one that would support me in my wish for a natural childbirth. From the very beginning the difference was very apparent and we felt well cared for. The group meetings were great! My birth ended up with some complications and we had to resort to medications, but thanks to the loving care of my team I turned a potentially traumatizing experience into a most beautiful one. Thank you, Homestyle!

Posted June 26th, 2007 by adminI'm so grateful I found St Luke's homestyle practice just in time for the birth of my little daughter - it gave me the opportunity for a natural birth that I had been looking for. I had an amazing experience that I will never forget, with Hokhmah (the attending midwife) helping me along wonderfully and making sure everything went as smoothly as possible with least intervention.

Posted June 26th, 2007 by adminThey say it's a common occurrence to fall a little bit in love with your midwives. I can understand that: I feel very blessed that I met Yeshi, Cynthia, and Olivia. They cherished my daughter's birth as much as I do. From the first moment I met Yeshi and Cynthia, I knew that I would be in safe, capable hands, and that I would be encouraged and my body respected to do what it knows how to do best. Homestyle Midwifery…is best of both worlds: an incredible support team and a safe, compassionate, empowered environment in which to have your baby -- with medical facilities there, just in case you need it. The staff at St. Luke's are very kind and capable - and the Aqua Doula (a giant bathtub for you to labor in) is the BEST!

Posted June 26th, 2007 by adminFrom the beginning of my contact with Yeshi and Homestyle Midwifery until the end of my care I felt not only listened to but also respected and honored. Even at the very end of the process when I was going to have a C/section, I felt my perspective and the information I had researched was validated. I honor Homestyle for offering women who choose to or need to birth in a hospital an amazing and empowered birth experience. By offering women this kind of birth experience, Homestyle Midwifery gives back to the community a more empowered woman and parent that touches all of us for generations to come.

Posted June 26th, 2007 by adminI couldn't be happier that we ended up with Homestyle, and my only regret is that I can't go back in time and have them care for me for my first daughter's birth as well! Yeshi and Cynthia are very special people and have created a unique and wonderful environment for the whole experience of pregnancy, labor and birth, and early parenthood. For me, the most important aspect of their approach is their belief that any birth can be a beautiful birth. They took the time to get to know us as people, not just patients-- to find out our fears, hopes and dreams for labor and birth. I also loved the sense of community they created by bringing together all the parents in our birth month together for the first half of the third trimester. It was an opportunity to prepare emotionally for labor and a new baby in an informal way, and I met some great new folks in my neighborhood who have become friends. We had complete and utter trust that with Yeshi and Cynthia I would receive loving and appropriate care, no matter what kind of birth I had. As a result, we had the kind of birth we had dreamed about!
